Community education event celebrates Heart Month

Event date: Monday, February 26, 2018, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Location: Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre

Wellness Centre at NightFebruary is Heart Month and the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre is celebrating by holding a community education event in partnership with the Central East Regional Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Service. Community members are invited to the Centre on Monday evening, February 26, to come have a “heart to heart” about their cardiovascular health.

“Heart Month is a perfect opportunity to focus on getting heart healthy, and learn about services available here in the community. If you want to improve the quality of your heart health, we are here to help,” says Jennifer Bell, Fitness and Lifestyle Coordinator, Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre.

The “Heart to Heart” Community Talk will feature a panel of exercise, clinical and wellness experts who will have a free-flowing discussion with attendees about a number of heart health topics. Community members will also hear from a local cardiac patient about their experience, and get a tour of the facility from Sport & Wellness Centre staff.

The Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre is one of 14 community cardiovascular rehabilitation sites throughout the Central East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), and has been offering the regional service since July 2015. This six-month program for those with cardiovascular disease is led by exercise therapists working with a dietitian, pharmacist and
nurses, and provides education, self-management training, and exercise.
