A series of thirty-one large colour photographs make up Arnold Zageris: On the Labrador. These works result from the photographer’s more than two decades of excursions to the Torngat Mountains in Labrador. Zageris shows us a vast geographical region with thin soil and abundant mineral resources clung to by tenacious ecosystems. His exquisite land, water and sky formation is familiar and unfamiliar, recognizable yet surprisingly abstract. Photographing Labrador’s distinct, northerly terrain for decades, Zageris faced the challenges of travelling across a landscape twice the area of Newfoundland to capture these rarely seen locales on a grand scale. Arnold Zageris currently resides in Peterborough.

In her photo-based series Wall on Wall, emerging artist and Western University MFA candidate Diana Yoo (Peterborough) captures the meeting place of where the surface of a wall begins and ends at the corner of a room. Industrial buildings in various Toronto locations provide her with a minimalist subject matter and colour palette. Yoo’s framing of fragments of found interior places depict dual notions of near and far, softness and sharpness, as well as shallow and deep space.

 
Offerings from this year’s Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour include a rich diversity of arts and crafts, such as oil, acrylic, watercolour and encaustic painting, wood and stone sculpture, textiles, jewellery, furniture, glass and ceramics. They are previewed at both the Peterborough Lift Lock Visitor Centre and the AGP.

The Art Gallery of Peterborough will also be featuring Photo Works from our Permanent Collection, including images by David Bierk, Jennifer Dickson, Wanda Haayan, David Hockney, Paul Howard Hodgkinson, and Joseph Sudek.
