Sport Field Permitting

May/November Field Use

Each year, the City of Peterborough Recreation Division requests that all sport participants refrain from using any of the City athletic fields, including school board fields until early May when the fields are suitable for play .   Please also be aware that should the weather not cooperate, the Recreation Division rain policy will be enforced.

For further information, contact Terri Lynn Johnston at the Recreation Division at 705-742-7777 ext. 1829.

Outdoor Sport Fields

Each spring there is a great demand for sport fields and picnic areas in our parks from leagues, tournaments, families, special event organizers and Boards of Education users. A wide range of recreation and cultural events utilize these facilities beginning, the first week of May and continuing into the fall.

Applications for spring, summer and fall uses are available at the Recreation Division office, located on the first floor of the Carnegie wing of City Hall. Information and applications are also available:

  • electronically by e-mailing Terri Lynn Johnston at TJohnston@peterborough.ca
  • by mail when you call the Recreation Division at 742-7777 x1829.
  • at the bottom of this page

Approval is based upon seniority and then on a first-come, first-serve basis. If applying for a tournament, please note that all tournament applications must be accompanied by a $100 deposit for adults, and a $50 deposit for youth, in order to be processed. Tournament payments are due one week prior to event date.

Picnic Permits

Covered picnic pavilions must be booked through the Recreation Division. There is a user fee charge for use of these areas in Beavermead Pavilion, Heritage Pavilion and Nicholl's Oval Pavilion. Del Crary Park and Millennium Park are also available for rent to the public for everything from cultural events to simple birthday parties. For more information please review the details provided under the Parks section.

Looking for Somewhere Fun to Skateboard?

The Peterborough West49 Skateboard Park, located at 560 McDonnel Street, is an open free-use facility for skateboard users. The park, which measures 8,400 square feet and includes 22 ramps, is open May to November each year.  Special events are often featured at the park with many professional skateboarders from Canada and the United States providing demonstrations.
