Public Beaches & Wading Pools

Two lifeguards supervising Peterborough beachSupervised Beaches

There are two City beaches open to the public for supervised swimming from July 1 to August 14, 2011.  Beavermead Beach on Ashburnham Drive and Rogers Cove on Maria Street will be supervised seven days a week, from 12 noon until 7:00 pm.  The Peterborough County-City Health Unit will be closely monitoring Beavermead and Rogers Cove Beaches in 2011. Water quality readings can be found online at www.pcchu.ca/beachsampling.htm.  A flag system will also be in place at the beaches to indicate the water quality. For further information, please call the Health Unit at 705-743-1000.

Supervised Wading Pools

The Recreation Division provides supervised wading pools at five locations throughout the City. These small, shallow pools are suitable for young children to approximately 8 years of age. Wading pools will operate from July 1 to August 21, 2011, and will be supervised daily from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, seven days per week.
Please note: Children should not be left alone in the park without appropriate adult supervision - the wading pool program is not a babysitting service.

Theme Days

The City of Peterborough Summer Aquatics Program is once again providing theme days at each of the 5 wading pool locations, as well as the two beaches. There are 4 theme days in total for the summer of 2011.  Theme day activities will be done when there are enough patrons to participate, and enough lifeguards to maintain supervision of the location. There are always crafts to be done, games to be played, and prizes to be won!

Check back here to see what theme days will be offered this summer!
