What to Bring to Camp Each Day
To ensure that your child's camp days are as enjoyable as possible, preparation is important. Take a look at some suggestions and ensure your kids are ready to enjoy all that their day camp has to offer.
Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures
Upon drop-off in the mornings, staff require parents and/or guardians to check in with the attendance staff. Staff will take attendance and introduce the child to the appropriate staff leader to start their day. At this time, any special information that should be shared with staff may be documented.
At normal pick-up time, parents and/or guardians will be required to sign their children out in person with an attending staff member. This time provides staff with the opportunity to discuss the child's day with parents. If you are picking up your child before the normal pick-up time, please get a mandatory sign-out slip from Summer Program Co-ordinators and NOT the front desk.
If an adult other than those indicated on our participants Personal Health and Information Form is to pick up your child, prior verbal or written notice is required and photo ID may be requested. If your child would like to walk or bike to camp on their own, or take public transportation or a taxi, written permission from a parent or guardian will be required prior to the start of the program.
Safe Arrival Program
Program staff will call the participant's home or the parent's/guardian's place of work if a child does not arrive at the program by 1 hour after the program start time. If your child is ill or will not be attending camp, please contact the Summer Program Coordinators directly before 9:00 am at 705-742-0050 ext. 2236. Please include your child's name and age, the camp they are attending and their camp leader's name if possible.
Summer Campers' Lunch Program
The Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre is pleased to offer a lunch program for our summer day campers. Lunches will be prepared by Chef Mark, of the Centre's Fresh Urban Plate Cafe, and will follow recommendations from the Canada Food Guide. The cost is $35.00 per week per child. Participants can be registered for the lunch program via the same methods available to register for the camp programs. Watch for the Lunch Registration Codes!
Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre Membership Discounts
Fee discounts for summer camp programs are available for child, family and on-adult family memberships. Eligible camper members will receive a discount off of their camp registration fees !!
Summer Camp Payment Installation Program
In 2011, camp staff introduced the option to pay for summer camp in installments! We will continue with this great program for 2013. A family is required to be registered in a minimum of four (4) weeks of camp to take advantage of this option. The total amount owing will be divided into equal payments, with the first installment due at the time of registration and the final payment due on or before July 1st. Payment will be withdrawn via pre-authorized debit. To set up payment using the installment plan, please make an appointment with the Program Co-Ordinator, Faryn Stanley at 705-742-0050 ext. 2206. The earlier in the year that you start the program, the more payments you can spread your total registration fees into, prior to camp start!
Administration of Medication
Program staff cannot administer prescribed medications unless an Authorization of Administration form has been completed. Forms may be completed upon arrival at your child's first day of camp to allow further discussion with our program supervisor.
When medication is provided to staff, it must be in it's original container and bear a current prescription label which will be cross-referenced with the Authorization of Administration Form. When a unit of measurement is required for medication, please supply a dosage implement with the medication (ie. teaspoon). The implement must be labeled with the child's name. Staff will not administer over-the-counter medications unless prescribed by a physician. For self-administered medications, such as asthma inhalers and epi-pens, children are required to bring an extra to keep at the Centre to eliminate any chance of forgetting this life-saving medication at home. During the program, the child can wear the medication in a hip-sack provided by us, or the medication can be carried by their staff leader to ensure close proximity at all times.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Program Co-ordinator at 705-742-0050 x 2206 in advance of, or during the program, to review your child's needs.
Photo Waiver
In the course of all program activities, photos may be taken and audio-visual recordings may be made. The City of Peterborough reserves the right to use all photographs and videos of all our programs, participants, special events and facilities for promotional purposes. Special circumstances do however surface with our child participants and we ask that parents make it quite clear on their Personal Health and Information Forms if they do not provide permission to allow their children to be a part of our promotional materials.
The participant (or parent/guardian if the participant is under the age of 18) voluntarily assumes any risk of injury or damage in connection with the use of services of facilities, and releases, discharges and agrees to indemnify and save harmless the City of Peterborough and it's employees, agents and volunteers from any liability, claim, demand, or costs whatsoever incurred arising out of the participation of the participant in the program or facility.
