Blue Sky Event

This fantastic FREE youth event is back again! Join the Peterborough Youth Council along with many Community Partners as we come together to celebrate youth during National Youth Week. Blue Sky is held the first Tuesday in May at Nicholls Oval. FREE featured events include:

  • Youth Band Jam Session
  • FREE Barbeque or Pizza
  • Henna Tatoos
  • Giant Twister Game & Jumbo Jousting
  • Interactive Booths
  • Dunk Tank

Junior Parks

Group of kids around a picnic table.The Junior Parks Program is offered to children age’s four to eight. The City of Peterborough Recreation Division offers this program free of charge. The program operates in areas within the City of Peterborough.

Program activities include both passive and active games, as well as crafts. Snacks are available to the children during the program. Parents are asked to remain in the Park for the duration of the program in case of emergency. For more information contact the City of Peterborough’s Recreation Division at 705-742-7777 ext 1805.

Drop-In Storytime
This is a program jam-packed full of stories, songs, rhymes, fingerplays and giggles. Children and adults are encouraged to participate and most of all, have fun! Call 705-745-5382 ext. 2381 for details.
 Toddler Time for two year olds
Toddler Time is designed to meet the developmental needs of two year olds. Adults and toddlers share stories, songs, rhymes and other activities. Registration is required and space is limited.
 Bouncin Babies for ages 6-23 months olds
Treat yourself and your baby to a special one-on-one time of bonding. Have fun sharing lap games, songs and rhymes that will stimulate your baby's intellectual development. Registration is required and space is limited.
 Saturday StoryCrafts
For Ages 6-11. Registration is required.
After School Club
For Ages 6-12.  Fall/Holiday/Winter & Spring Sessions offered on Wednesdays at 4:00 pm in the Storycorner.  No registration required.  Join us after school to discuss daily and seasonal events, to share jokes, to read stories, to play games and have some crafty fun!  New friends to be made & prizes to be won!
Parent & Child Book Club
For Ages 9-12.  Offered one Saturday a month at 3:00 pm in the Storycorner.  Registration is required.  Bring your parent to the Library!  Register and pick up a free copy of the current selection at the Children's Information Desk.  It's fun to Read - but even more fun when you can share the stories!  Parents and children are invited to join us to discuss a book together and have some crafty fun!
 Parent-Child Mother Goose
For Ages 0-2.  Fall/Winter & Spring Sessions offered on Thursdays at 11:00 am in the Auditorium.  Registration is required.  Join us for a special program in partnership with the New Canadians Centre.  Based on traditions, Mother Goose is a sharing of rhymes, songs and stories and provides an opportunity to bond closely with your child as well as to meet other members of the community.
 Special Story and Craft
For Ages 5-10.  Offered at various times in the Storycorner.  Registration is required.  Throughout the year we offer free story and craft programs to celebrate various holidays, such as: Valentine's Day, Father's and Mother's Day, Thanksgiving, International Children's Day, Halloween and Christmas.
PA Day Programs
For ALL Ages.  Registration is required.  Programs targeted to school age children are planned for the various PA Days throughout the school year.  Join us for movie screenings, LEGO challenges, crazy crafts, musical performances and more.
March Break Madness
For ALL Ages.  Fun programs planned for each day of the March Break.  Come out and enjoy incredible performances, exciting workshops, wonderful stories, intriguing presentations, and more.
TD Summer Reading Club
For ALL Ages.  June - September.  Register at any time in the summer.  The purpose of the TD Summer Reading Club is to encourage and provide incentive for children to continue reading throughout the summer.  Research shows that kids who read during the summer months maintain or accelerate their reading skills while kids that do not read often slide backwards.  Kids receive a FREE reading kit, sticker incentives and prizes throughout the summer as they enjoy reading and visiting the library.  Kids are also welcome to drop in to the Storycorner for Thursday S.L.A.M.S (Stories, Laughs, and More) for stories, games and crafts related to the Reading Club theme.
 Writing Contests
For Ages 6-12.  Every summer the Library hosts a poetry and short story writing contest for kids who are residents of Peterborough or attend a school in the City of Peterborough.
Summer Special Events
For ALL ages.  July and August.  Over summer break we invite you to our Wednesday afternoon special events held in the Library Auditorium.  We feature musicians, magicians, hands-on workshops, presentations, storytelling, author visits, games, and crafts (just to name a few).
Scrabble Night - The first Wednesday of every month from 7 pm to 9 pm.  Bring your own board or use one of ours.  All skill levels welcome.
Pizza & Pages - One Wednesday per month at 6:30 pm (5:30 in summer).

West 49 Skateboard Park

Peterborough West 49 skateboard parkThe Peterborough West49 Skateboard Park, located at 560 McDonnell Street, is an open free-use facility for skateboard users. The park which measures 8,400 square feet and includes 22 ramps, is open May to November each year.

Peterborough Family Resource Centre

Me and My Dad Drop in Program is held at the Peterborough Family Resource Centre, 201 Antrim St. Dads can bring their children in for early learning activities and a chance to meet other dads. For more information call 705-748-9144.

While at the Resource Centre come and check out the Resource Lending Library filled with toys, activities as well as parenting books. Free monthly borrowing. Call PFRC at 748-9144 for more details.
