Tax Billing Schedule
For 2012, the property tax billing schedule is as follows:
- Interim Tax Bills - mailed out in early March
- 1st instalment due March 30, 2012
- 2nd instalment due May 31, 2012
- Final Tax Bills - mailed out in early July
- 1st instalment due July 31, 2012
- 2nd instalment due September 28, 2012
The Interim Tax Bill is based on the 2012 Current Value Assessment times a calculated interim tax rate required to raise 50% of the total tax levied in 2011 for the city. The Final Tax Bill reflects the new tax rate once approved by City Council in 2012 less the amount billed on the interim. All additional charges and credits such as Local Improvement charges, Business Improvement charges (BIA), Heritage Tax Credits and the Low Income Senior & Disabled Tax Credits are included on the final billing.
In general, tax bills are always mailed out the first weeks of March and July, with instalments due the City’s last working day of March, May, July and September. Supplementary tax bills are generally mailed out three times each year in the Spring, Summer and Fall, however, these dates do fluctuate based on the receipt of the information from the assessment office.
