Education Taxes

Education taxes are charged for all properties in Ontario. The rates are provided to the City by the Province on an annual basis.

Teacher in ClassroomThe education tax rates are the same for Residential, Farm, Managed Forest, Multi-Residential and New Multi-Residential property Classes. The tax rates are the same regardless of which school board you have your taxes directed to.

Commercial & Industrial Properties

Properties in the Commercial and Industrial tax classifications do not have their education support directed to a specific school system. The Province provides the City with the enrollment figures for each system, and the education taxes collected are dispersed based on those numbers to each applicable board. This is a Provincial decision and the City has no input into these disbursements.
