Financial Assistance

If you qualify, Ontario Works can provide you with money to help you cover the cost of your basic needs (ie. food) and housing costs.  The amount of money you may receive from Ontario Works will depend on your:
  • family size
  • income
  • assets, and
  • housing costs

Calculating the amount of money you may get is complicated.  You should contact your local Ontario Works office for more information.   More information is available in our Ontario Works Rates Sheet

Discretionary Benefits:

Each municipality determines which benefits they will offer from a range of health and non-health items and services. Peterborough City Council determines what items and services will be offered to people in receipt of social assistance in the city and county of Peterborough. Deskside Orientation

Desktop Orientation presentation is completed with all new applicants during the verification interview. It provides a brief overview of the Ontario Works program highlighting the client's rights and responsibilities and information regarding employment and financial assistance.
