Hostels, Homelessness and After Hours

Community Priorities

United Way and the City of Peterborough Social Services Division are faciliting a joint process to establish homelessness planning priorities in early 2011. For more information about this process please click here.

Homelessness Services

Emergency hostel services means the provision of board, lodging and personal needs to homeless people on a short term and infrequent basis but does not include services provided to victims of family violence. These are individuals in crisis seeking temporary housing and supports pending resolution of the issues that gave rise to the emergency.

Brock Mission and Youth Emergency Shelter are contracted to provide emergency Hostel services for the City and County of Peterborough.

The Brock Mission provides hostel services to single male adults and to single females over the age of 24 years. The services are provided from two separate locations, Murray St and Chemong Rd. Services can be accessed by calling 748-4766 or by attending in person at 217 Murray St, Peterborough. The Youth Emergency Shelter provides hostel services to youth up to age 24 years and to families with children. The Youth Emergency Shelter is located at 196 Brock St, Peterborough. Services can be accessed by calling 748-3851 or by attending in person.

Cameron House provides hostel services to women over the age of 24 years.  Services can be accessed by calling 748-4766.  Cameron  House is located at 738 Chemong Road  (North of Parkhill Road just before Wolsely Street)

The Community Protocol for managing situations when people are refused admissions to/or are required to leave an emergency shelter has been reviewed, updated and signed off by community partners. The protocol reinforces the importance of the services provided by the emergency shelters and recognizes that from time-to-time, living in an emergency shelter environment can be challenging. The protocol identifies shelter processes, prohibitive behaviour and supports and services available in the community. Access the link to read the full protocol including the list of involved community agencies.

Staying in a hostel environment is difficult for some individuals. Support services are available by accessing various agencies and service groups. Click   here to find a list of services available. The After Hours phone number is 705-740-6222. Click here for more info on after hours services.
