We are creating a 5 year plan for early learning in the City and County of Peterborough. This plan will outline strategies that Child Care and Early Years programs will use. It will highlight our goals and show us how to measure our success.

The Five Year Plan Will:

  • Promote the health, safety and wellbeing of all children
  • Provide high quality experiences and positive outcomes for children
  • Include high quality, professional staff
  • Respond to community needs 
  • Respect the diversity of our community
  • Be accountable for public money
  • Promote belonging, wellbeing, engagement, and expression for children
  • Encourage strong community partnerships

System Plan Timeline:

  • Community Engagement (Summer and Fall 2018)
  • Approved by Council and Ministry (June 30th, 2019)

    We want to have a Child Care and Early Years system that is Accessible, Responsive, Affordable and High Quality.

      Accessible:

      • Meet family needs in terms of days, hours, and locations
      • Available to all who need or want the service
      • Easily accessed
      • Inclusive of all
      • Provide adequate choice and flexibility for families

      Responsive:

      • Reflect diverse needs
      • Adaptable and respond to family needs
      • Address changing demands and service gaps

      Affordable:​

      • Funding approach supports improved affordability
      • Affordable for all families
      • Fee Subsidies are available to support families in need

      High Quality:

      • Promote child belonging, wellbeing, engagement, and expression 
      • Align with "How Does Learning Happen"
      • Employ a highly skilled and fairly compensated workforce
      • Engage in ongoing professional development and learning
