Front Entrance of Social ServicesThe Social Services Division provides financial and employment assistance through the Social Assistance Program to eligible residents in the City and County of Peterborough. Financial Assistance is to provide for food, shelter and personal needs for members of the family unit. Employment Assistance supports Social Assistance participants with practical help to prepare for and find employment. Participants who have mandatory requirements will participate in such employment assistance activities as employment supports, basic education, Community Placements and Employment/Self-Employment programs. Employment Service staff of Social Assistance assist participants with resumes, work placements, counselling and academic upgrading and training. Social Services may also assist clients of Social Assistance and the Ontario Disability Support Program with discretionary benefits.

The Social Services Division provides a range of financial and employment assistance under the Ontario Works Act to eligible residents of the City and County of Peterborough. Social Assistance is considered a program of financial and employment assistance of last resort and is regulated by provincial legislation and directives.

The Social Services Division also manages the Provincial Homelessness Initiative funds and other homelessness initiatives.

Community Partnerships and Family Services provides child care and financial assistance to eligible families in the City and County of Peterborough who are working or attending school. Child Care is provided from the City's two day care centres or private child care operators.
