The City of Peterborough Environmental Protection Laboratory (EPL) assists in the production of clean drinking water and wastewater effluent by providing lab analysis in support of Regional, Provincial and Federal legislation.
The Lab is an ISO 17025 certified lab and has been accredited by the Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA) since 2004. For a list of accredited tests, visit the CALA website.
Additionally, the EPL is licensed by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment for drinking water testing. See a list of licensed tests.
The Environmental Protection Lab performs testing in support of the following government Regulations:
- Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act
- Nutrient Management Act
- Water Resources Act
- Sewer Use By-Law
- Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA)
The EPL performs testing for a wide variety of inorganic parameters, including nitrate, nitrite, fluoride, nutrients and metals, and biological parameters including BOD, CBOD, E. coli, Total Coliforms and HPC. Sample types include surface water, ground water, leachate, drinking water, biosolids and soils.
As well as providing testing for the WWTP, the Environmental Protection Laboratory provides testing for the Peterborough Utilities Commission (PUC), Peterborough City/County landfill monitoring, Industrial Monitoring Program, other Regional and Municipal projects, private companies and the public.
