Business Licensing
On September 12, 2005 By-Law 05-197 pertaining to Business Licensing in the City of Peterborough was passed. The by-law is intended to promote the health and safety of the public and control nuisance, by requiring those who operate businesses to obtain a license. Such operations are regulated in accordance with the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c.25.
The following Business categories require a Municipal Business license to operate in The City of Peterborough.
- Adult Entertainment Parlours
- Arcades
- Auctioneers
- Bakeshops
- Barbershops/Hairdressing Establishments
- Billiard Halls
- Bowling Alleys
- Butcher Shops
- Door to Door Salespersons*
- Dry Cleaning/Laundromats
- Lodging Houses**
- Mobile Canteens
- Plumbers/Drain Layers
- Public Dance Halls
- Public Garages
- Restaurants
- Roller Skating Rinks
- Temporary Traders*
- Theaters

*On August 2, 2011, Council passed By-law 11-107, which has changed the way that the City of Peterborough issues Temporary Trader licences.

Business License Application
All applications will be subject to inspections for any building, zoning, health and fire regulations that pertain to the specific type of business. You can download the following applications here:
