Business Licensing

On June 30, 2014 By-Law 14-080 pertaining to Business Licensing in the City of Peterborough was passed.  The by-law is intended to promote the health and safety of the public and control nuisance, by requiring those who operate businesses to obtain a license.  Such operations are regulated in accordance with the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c.25.

The following Business categories require a Municipal Business license to operate in The City of Peterborough.

  • Adult Entertainment Establishment
  • Auctioneer
  • Auto Centre
  • Bakeshop
  • Barber Shop, Esthetics Service Parlour or Hairdressing Establishment
  • Boarding, Lodging or Rooming House
  • Body Modification
  • Butcher Shop
  • Dry Cleaning/Laundromat
  • Mobile Canteen
  • Pet Grooming Parlour  
  • Plumber/Drain Layer
  • Restaurant or Caterer
  • Salvage Yard   
  • Sheet Metal Worker  
  • Temporary Trader

Business License Application

All applications will be subject to inspections for any building, zoning, health and fire regulations that pertain to the specific type of business. You can download the following applications here:

Please note this is not the Provincial registration license, this is a municipal license to operate a business in the City of Peterborough. Please contact Service Ontario for further information about operating a business in Ontario.
