Heritage Events

Heritage events are coordinated each year by the Peterborough Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee.

Heritage Trade Show
On Saturday April 7, the Peterborough Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee will be hosting a heritage trade show  to connect tradespeople who work on heritage buildings with owners of heritage properties throughout the City. Owners of heritage properties are invited to attend this free drop-in event which is being held between 10 am and 4 pm at the McDonnel Street Activity Centre. Opening remarks will be at 10:45 am.

The Heritage Preservation Office will also be holding short seminars throughout the day to advise owners of properties in the Avenues and Neighbourhood Conservation District about the alteration application process and heritage grant program. The seminars will take place at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm and will last approximately half an hour.

Heritage Hunt
The Heritage Hunt is an annual event that challenges people to test their knowledge of Peterborough's historic architecture and win great prizes. The contest consists of identifying the location of 30 architectural details that can be seen from the street and filling in the answer sheet. Clues, the answer sheet, and a map of the area where the buildings are located can be found in the April 5th edition of the Peterborough Examiner and will be available after that date at City Hall and the Community Services Department at 210 Wolfe Street, Peterborough.

The answer sheet must be returned by noon on May 11 to the Heritage Preservation Office at 210 Wolfe Street. It can be dropped off or mailed to PACAC c/o City Hall, 500 George Street N, Peterborough ON K9H 3R9. It can also be scanned and sent to eturner@peterborough.ca.

Doors Open
Doors Open is an annual event that takes place across Ontario from April to October where members of the public can access buildings for free that would normally be closed to the public or have an associated fee. The event allows people to experience Ontario's diverse heritage and learn about many interesting places in their communities.

In 2018, Doors Open Peterborough will take place on Saturday May 5, from 10 am to 4 pm and feature sites that explore Peterborough's industrial heritage. The day will feature site visits, walking tours, and free rides on a town trolley. All sites will offer free admissions and many will feature guided tours and information about the site's history.

Additional information, including a list of sites, can be found at Doors Open Ontario
