Municipal Cultural Plan

The Municipal Cultural Plan is now available online.

The Plan

The Municipal Cultural Plan (MCP) will develop a vision for Peterborough, highlighting economic prosperity, social progress, and quality of life. It will focus on culture’s role in creating a livable, sustainable community with a vibrant downtown and healthy neighbourhoods. Through extensive community engagement, the Plan aims to generate a shared cultural vision in Peterborough and provide a set of guiding principles and actions that ensures Peterborough reaches its greatest potential as a culturally vibrant, creative city.

The Project

For the creation of the plan, the City has chosen an award winning team with substantial experience working in cultural development across Canada. Consultants from the integrated design firm, Dialog, are leading the process in association with Jenny Ginder of Ginder Consulting. Part of the funding for this project has been provided by the Government of Ontario through the Creative Communities Prosperity Fund.

Public Kick-Off

The Public Kick-Off was held on September 29, 2010. More than 100 people attended. Participants were asked to commnet on what they feel makes a great city, what are Peterborough's "cultural gems", and what do they love about living here.

If you missed this event you can now view the presention here:

Visioning Forum

The objective of the Visioning Forum was to involve members of the public, cultural sector stakeholders, and City Staff in developing a shared vision for the Municipal Cultural Plan, as well as strategies for implementing that vision. This daylong event was a great success. More than 160 people attended, and the Project Team was flooded with great ideas.

If you were unable to attend the Visioning Forum, you can now view the presentation here:

Draft Review Forum

Dialog, the City's planning consultant has developed a working draft of the Municipal Cultural Plan. Highlights of it were presented to the public at a Draft Review Forum held at Mark Street United Church on October 19, 2011. The community reviewed the material and provided comment and feedback on proposed recommendations and initiatives. The panels are now available to the public. The City is inviting the community to provide further comments regarding the plan until November 4, 2011.

Approval of the MCP

On April 16, 2012 the Committee of the Whole received the draft of the MCP following a presentation by Dialog, the City's planning consultant. The recommendation to adopt the MCP was unanimously ratified on April 23, 2012 at City Council. A copy of the Municipal Cultural Plan can be found on line.
