Culture Days

The second annual Culture Days campaign is now underway. This grassroots Canada-wide movement aims to raise awareness, participation, and engagement in the cultural life of Canada’s communities. This year, Culture Days will take place on the weekend of September 30 – October 2.

The inaugural Culture Days celebration was held in September 2010 over three days in more than 700 Canadian cities and towns of all sizes. In Ontario there were 930 free Culture Days activities, including more than 70 in the Peterborough area.

Events

Here are just a few of the events that will be part of Culture Days in Peterborough:

Anomaly Studio Tour
Anomaly Studio, 202 Edinburgh St.
October 1 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, October 2 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Three local artists share their paintings, textiles, printmaking, and artists' books, and demonstrate spinning, weaving, and tatting. They will also be hosting a drum circle.

Children's Storytelling Workshop
Peterborough Public Library, 345 Aylmer St. N.
October 1 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Parents, grandparents, and teachers can get tips on how to tell stories to children ages 2 to 10, and how to motivate the children to participate.

Rust Remover Weekend
Art School Peterborough, 178A Charlotte St.
October 1 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, October 2 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
All former students are invited to stop by during Culture Days and work with Art School instructors to "remove their rust" before the start of a new term. You will also be able to see some art in progress.

Family Day
Art Galler of Peterborough, 250 Crescent St.
October 2 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Create art and crafts in the Art Gallery of Peterborough's studio.
