CIB Flower"Peterborough is a clean & tidy community. The City has many cleanup programs partnered with business, service clubs and schools. The City and community are to be commended for the ‘Green Again Clean Again’ program". (Matt Rosen, Dave Hilton, 2006)

Tidiness 1A diverse range of events were held in the City to celebrate Earth Month this year. The events included the 10th Annual Earth Day Jackson Creek Clean Up, hosted by the Otonabee Conservation Foundation and Tim Horton’s, The Millennium Park Clean Up, hosted by Frontier College, Adventure Divers and Peterborough Communications Support Systems, the Clean Again Green Again School Yard Clean Ups, and the Rotary Club Clean Up.

Tidiness 2Pepsi QTG employees hosted a Clean Up of public lands adjacent to the downtown Quaker Plant, and the Peterborough Horticultural Society did some spring cleaning at Fleming Park. Peterborough Green Up hosted a series of Urban Forestry Workshops, the 5th Annual Green Expo was held, and the Ecology Park Market opened for sales of compost, native species and other garden delights. Many City residents and local business also pitched in to clean up local parks and streets. Over 3,000 kg of litter was collected during the Earth Day Jackson Creek Clean Up. This was sorted by volunteers to ensure that as much as possible was re-used or recycled. Overall, 30 tonnes of litter was collected throughout the City during Earth Month.

Tidiness 3OPIRG held their reusable exchange in an effort to make clothing and household items and other goods available to City residents free of charge. This resulted in a great event where everywhere had access to great stuff, and unwanted items were diverted from the local landfill.
