Mayor Bennett Giving Gala

The Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough fosters philanthropy by pooling endowed and special funds and providing grants to registered charities in order to enhance the quality of life for local citizens. The Foundation enables all community members to contribute to positive, lasting changes in the community, and is a part of a national network of community foundations that exist in more than 175 Canadian communities.

On November 30, 2011, Mayor Bennett and the Foundation announced plans for the Inaugural “Mayor Bennett Giving Gala,” a new community event designed to support the Foundation in its work of assisting charities in all sectors within the City and County of Peterborough. The event is an evening of cocktails, dinner and entertainment that is open to everyone.

Since the inaugural Mayor Bennett Giving Gala in 2012, supporters and businesses have raised almost $395,000 through the annual event in support of the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough.

The inaugural Mayor Bennett Giving Gala took place on January 28, 2012. The sold out event involving 200 members of the Peterborough community took place at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club. It raised $51,725 for the Community Foundation.

“I am delighted with the overwhelming support for the inaugural Giving Gala,” said Mayor Bennett. “The community has once again demonstrated its generous and caring spirit, which serves as an important reminder of who we are and what we believe in.”

The evening included entertainment by Aaron Hoffman, Tanah Haney, The Danny Bronson Band and J’s Magic. Silent and live auctions were also held with dream items such as a one-week stay at a Napa Valley estate, a three-carat diamond bracelet and the use of a private jet for a day.

The inaugural Mayor Bennett Giving Gala was generously supported by community-focused corporations and businesses including Great West Life, London Life, Canada Life, Charlotte Jewellers, Collins Barrow, ISL: Irwin Sargent and Lowes Limited, BDO Canada, The Peterborough Examiner, Dior Beauty, Flying Colours Corp., Forget Me Not Flowers, McWilliams Moving & Storage, WestJet, Adrienne Boyer Designs, Cosmetic Transformations, LLF Lawyers, The Clearing House, YMCA of Central East Ontario, The Original Greek, Locks Salon and Spa, and Peterborough Golf and Country Club.

The second annual Mayor Bennett Giving Gala took place on January 19, 2013, at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club, and raised more than $70,000.

The evening included entertainment by The Danny Bronson Band.  A small silent and live auction was also held with dream items such as a one-week stay at a Napa Valley estate, a Hugo Boss suit, a stay at The Waring House in Prince Edward County, two-carat diamond earrings and a private jet for a day.

The Mayor Bennett Giving Gala was generously supported by community-focused corporations and businesses including Great West Life, London Life, Canada Life, Freedom 55, Charlotte jewellers, Collins Barrow, ISL: Irwin Sargent and Lowes Limited, Dior Beauty, Flying Colours Corp., Carlson Wagonlit Travel, McWilliams Moving & Storage, Cosmetic Transformations, LLF Lawyers, The Clearing House, The Gentry, Roland's, Baxter Creek, The Liftlock Group, John Roberts, Elements, Parkhill on Hunter, 4th Line Theatre, Peterborough Symphony Orchestra, New Stages, Peterborough Theatre Guild, YMCA of Central East Ontario, Locks Salon and Spa, and Peterborough Golf and Country Club.

The third annual Mayor Bennett Giving Gala was held on January 18, 2014. It raised more than $75,000 in support of the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough – an organization working with and supporting charities throughout the City and County of Peterborough.

The Gala provided guests with an opportunity to connect with many like-minded individuals, companies and organizations who are interested in helping to a build a vibrant and strong Peterborough. The evening included entertainment by Porter Sound. A small auction was also held with dream items such as a one-week stay at resort in Mexico, a private jet for a day, diamond earrings, and a shopping spree.

The proceeds from the evening support the Community Foundation in its mission to improve the lives of people in the City and County through local giving, grant making and community development initiatives.

The fourth annual Mayor Bennett Giving Gala was held on February 7, 2015. It raised $85,000 in support of the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough, bringing the total raised since the inaugural event in 2012 to almost $300,000.

The fifth annual Mayor Bennett Giving Gala was held on January 23, 2016. It raised $96,500 in support of the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough, bringing the total raised since the inaugural event in 2012 to almost $395,000.

The sixth annual Mayor Bennett Giving Gala was held on February 4, 2017. It raised $123,700 in support of the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough, bringing the total raised since the inaugural event in 2012 to about $515,000.
